When it comes to modifying cars, the car owners are challenged to be creative: to create and realize a picture that one would have in mind prior to buying parts or even before buying the car itself. After acquiring this E91 Touring (a rare specimen in Indonesia), Ecin was certain of the direction that he wanted to go after with his wagon: stanced with air suspension; combined with aggressive offset wheels and stretched tires. Ecin admitted that he was inspired by the direction taken by Andi with his S203 Estate (see Blog Entry #27). Another person who inspired him to get a wagon was an Indonesian Youtuber: Gofar Hilman (@pergijauh). But that all changed when Ecin was offered a set of BBS E88 in gold by a friend. YES, sometimes wheel fitment will dictate the direction of modification that needs to be approached.
After seeing the wheels in person, he knew that he had to have them. And his wagon was then modified with a motorsport theme in mind. Meaty fitment BBS E88 in gold with red BBS center caps paired with an aggressive yet usable height; in which I normally refer it as “Responsible Adult Drop.” M-tech front bumper and carbon fiber rear wing were purchased to compliment the car. As a final touch, the wagon received a fresh coat of OE “Japan Red” paint. The red on gold combination on this E91 Touring just pops and turns many heads everywhere it goes.
Ecin shared a story on how he is new to this wagon game. So far, he is enjoying the ability of taking his family to places without sacrificing comfort. Having a decent cargo space in the wagon is also a WIN for Ecin. Prior to the ownership of this E91 Touring, he’s always been into JDM cars. As a matter of fact, he is currently fine tuning a built Evo III to complete that Euro / JDM flavor in his garage.
Introduce Yourself:
Ecin from Jakarta, Indonesia. I own a used car dealership.
WHY A WAGON?
Wagon is a rare breed in Indonesia. I was inspired by @andysubowo and @pergijauh.
They sparked my interest in buying a wagon and to modify it. Trying something unique in modifying it without sacrificing its wagon characteristic. I try to modify it so that it can still be family friendly.
Did you consider a different WAGON instead of this one?
Wagons are hard to come by in this part of the region. When this E91 was offered to me by a friend, I immediately bought it! E91s are rarity in Indonesia.
What was your original objective with your car and has that objective changed?
At first, I wanted to improve the wagon’s stance to keep up with the current trend of “LOW” and “Fender To Lip.” I was then offered a set of these BBS E88 wheels that completely changed the direction of the modification to “motorsport.” The meaty fitment feels more suitable for the function of the wagon as family hauler.
What style would you say best describes your car?
“Being stylish and trendy when going to market”
Who assisted in the planning/building/modding of your car?
@david_mahajaya and @riversidewheels
What do you feel makes your car unique/special in your eyes?
It’s special to acquire something so rare in Indonesia. It’s even more special to keep it comfortable to daily it and to use it to get groceries.
What is your favorite part/feature/function of the car?
The BBS E88 wheels. And I dig the ducktail wing that’s currently on it.
If you could pick one thing you aren’t satisfied with about your car, what would it be?
Horsepower
What has been the biggest obstacle you’ve faced while building this car?
I wanted more power out of this car. Perhaps a supercharger in the future?
What one word best describes your car?
Trendy
What is your final goal with this car?
I like the car as it stands currently. More power in this “family wagon” would be the ultimate goal.
