I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Benz really got it right with the S212 design! I really can’t get enough of this Estate offering from Benz. In AMG trim, S212 is the complete package: packing some muscle power, the unmistakably growl during start up and acceleration, the aggressive yet elegant exterior appearances and its rarity. This week’s blog entry features Jay’s S212 E63 AMG that’s been tastefully modified. And the best part of this wagon is its black exterior color! (at least to me, it is! Can’t say the same about the owner)

One thing that really stands out from Jay’s S212 is its aggressive appearance: lowered just enough to be usable and sporting a set of HRE P43SC wheels. Wide and meaty Nitto NT555 305 tires in the rear of this wagon definitely mean business! Exterior modification was carefully thought-out with the addition of front spoiler, mirror housings, rear spoiler and rear diffuser from Renntech. From the get go, you can immediately tell that this wagon is packing some serious muscle! While most “normal” people think that E63 AMG is already making enough power from the factory, Jay would like to think otherwise! Turbo upgrade was sourced from Weistec while Renntech was chosen to supply downpipes for this wagon. The remaining hardware came from Capristo (muffler) and Speedtech (X-pipe). Finally, Benzwork was trusted to perform the tuning. One unique modification that was done to Jay’s S212 is the rear facing 3rd row seating. Mercedes Benz never offered this as an option on the S212 stateside. Again, Benzwork was trusted to source and install the necessary parts for this OEM+ addition.

With the original goal to have it built as a fast cruiser, I think Jay has achieved that goal and more…

WHY A WAGON?

It’s a stealth sleeper, I can take my dog and haul friends and family around and still scoot from point A to B. I always had a soft spot for station wagons being a stealth sleeper, and being a IYKYK type of a vehicle, And sadly the US never got the CLS Shooting Brake, which I think is probably one of the best looking vehicles made in the past decade. I did have a W211 E55 sedan prior, but I kind of do regret never buying a S211 Wagon when they were cheaper, before I say this I will wear a flamesuit, the W211 is a bit more reliable, with the M113k engine.

I did do ShiftS3Ctor one year in this wagon ,and I was able to take 3 friends, and a trunk full of stuff rather than trailering the car up and down.

Did you consider a different WAGON instead of this one?

If money was no object, W213 AMG – with just a tune (ECU/TCU) and downpipes, I can get about 75% of the fun of this car, or RS6 Avant.

What was your original objective with your car and has that objective changed?

Just be a fast cruiser

What style would you say best describes your car?

Tasteful for all, enhanced but not overboard.

Who assisted in the planning/building/modding of your car?

Benzworks for the build, Serge! Thank you

SSA HAUS, Fuzionteknique and Benztec for Maintenance.

What do you feel makes your car unique / special in your eyes?

Renntech rear diffuser and spoiler (Kind of hard to come by)

What is your favorite part/feature/function of the car?

3rd row -Yes Daddy Doug (Inside Joke)- it is possible for a W212 E63 Wagon to retrofit the 3rd row seating.

If you could pick one thing you aren’t satisfied with about your car, what would it be?

Wish it had more grip, the 305’s light up when I drop a gear and go, even on the freeway. I’d love some BBS LM/LMR wheels but with A disk faces and lack of lip this car, and to go with skinnier tires if I did get a set, I’d have to unfortunately pass, therefore, this car will likely stay on Monoblock wheels.

And lastly it was not black… But a clean S212 chassis was hard to come by.

What has been the biggest obstacle you’ve faced while building this car?

Making sure I don’t grenade engine #2, I’d rather make less power being more reliable. A lot of M157 people are stating the car should put down more than 750+whp on W3’s but Serge builds his cars with reliability in mind, so I will suffice peak power for more reliability.

What one word best describes your car?

Fast

What is your final goal with this car?

It’s pretty much done
