The evolution of my 2004 Jetta Wagon continues.
Satisfied with all the modifications up to 2011, the itch for a new set of wheels came to me in late 2013. At that time, the so-called cool kids started running Rotiform wheels. I knew I had to be one of the cool kids and contacted Jason Whipple to get a set of 3-piece Rotiform DIA wheels, 18×9 and 18×10 with Brushed centers and Chrome lips.
This was the phase where I thought that my wagon was finally 100% complete!
Then, I started traveling more for work in 2014 and I would be away for months on any given trip. Unfortunately, this meant that my cars were not being driven at all. This traveling situation carried into 2015 and I remember waking up one morning and having this thought: “Hmmm… I had a chunk of cash stuck on the wagon.” Somehow I thought it was wiser to keep the cash in hand rather than having a cool wagon. That same month, I sold the Rotiform DIA, the whole air suspension and OEM HIDs. I switched back to H&R coilovers and got a set of rare Dynatech DTM8 wheels in 18×8.5 and 18×9.5.
By the way, remember the 2005 VW GTI daily driver that I briefly mentioned in part 1 of the blog? Here are a few photos of it. This GTI was built with “FUN Daily” theme in mind. And YES, that’s a reverse staggered setup you see on it. The car ran Enkei RPF1 17×9 on 245/40 front and 17×8 on 225/45 rear.
In 2016, I spent my whole summer back in the states and did a lot of canyon driving in the GTI. Towards the end of the summer and before I hit the road back to Asia, I decided to part ways with the GTI (definitely a bitter-sweet moment). As I didn’t want to lose to a fun daily, some parts were exchanged between the GTI and the Jetta Wagon (most notably the front end). GTI had Carbon Fiber hood & SRS-Tec Wider Fenders (25mm wider than stock); which made their ways over to the Wagon. Recaro SRD seats in the GTI also made way to the Wagon. Lastly, Nardi Deep Corn steering wheel was picked to replace the existing Nardi Twin.
In the summer time of 2017, I decided to give the long overdue fresh paint on the front end that took many beatings while these parts were on the GTI. Enkei RPF-1 wheels were replaced with 18×9.5 Rotiform TMB in DDT finish for more of a cruiser look. Stay tuned for the current looks of this car!
